Support
V1 Bogey is supported by email at support@prettygoodlabs.com. Most messages get a reply within two business days.
What to include
A first message with these five things almost always gets a useful first reply. Without them, the first reply is just a request for them.
- The version number, shown at the bottom of the Settings screen.
- Your device model, for example iPhone 15 Pro or MacBook Air M2.
- Your iOS or macOS version.
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- A screenshot or screen recording if the problem is visual.
Common questions
Does it collect any of my data?
No. V1 Bogey collects no analytics, telemetry, advertising identifiers, contact information, or usage data. Preferences and lockouts are stored on your device using the operating system's own storage. It can additionally sync to your own private iCloud account, which goes to Apple under your Apple ID and not to us. See the privacy policy.
Do I need an account?
No. V1 Bogey has no account, no sign-in screen, and no server behind it. It uses the Apple ID you are already signed in with to sync through iCloud, and works without it if you would rather it did not.
Will it work offline?
Yes. V1 Bogey works fully offline; only its optional iCloud sync needs a connection, and it catches up later when it gets one.
V1 Bogey will not connect to my detector.
Almost always this is another app holding the Bluetooth link. The Valentine One accepts one connection at a time, so V1connection or any other detector app has to be fully force quit, not just backgrounded. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and flick the other app away, then reopen V1 Bogey.
Do not try to pair the detector in iOS Settings, Bluetooth. It will not appear there, and it does not need to. V1 Bogey finds and connects to it directly.
Why does V1 Bogey need Always location?
A false alarm is only a false alarm at a specific place, so recognising one means knowing where you are, and it has to keep knowing while the phone is in a pocket with the screen off. iOS never offers Always the first time it asks; you get While Using, and you have to go to Settings, V1 Bogey, Location and change it. The app shows a banner until you do, because with While Using it will stop matching lockouts the moment you put the phone down.
It is not tracking you continuously. Location runs while the app is on screen, while it is connected to your detector, and for five minutes after a disconnect. When the detector is off, so is location.
It stopped muting partway through a drive.
Two likely causes. Either location is set to While Using rather than Always, or iOS terminated the app. The app cannot restart itself, so if the phone rebooted or you force quit it, open it once at the start of the next drive.
Does V1 Bogey work if I never open it?
No. It has to be launched at least once per drive. Once running it stays running for the whole trip with the screen off, but nothing wakes it from a fully terminated state when your detector powers on. iOS does not provide a mechanism for that with this hardware.
Will it mute a real police car?
It should not, and there are two safeguards. A saved lockout only fires within about 300 metres of the spot you saved it, on the same band, within 10 MHz. Optional automatic learning never touches Ka, which is the band American police actually use, so a Ka signal is only ever muted by a decision you made deliberately. You can also label a recurring signal and mark that label as never-auto-mute.
The honest limit: a lockout you save on a door opener that happens to sit within a few MHz of a police frequency will cover that frequency too, inside its 300 metre circle. No frequency window separates two signals that close together. If you know real police work a spot where you have saved a false alarm, delete the lockout there.
Judgment still sits with you. Treat the app as a way to stop ignoring your detector, not as a reason to trust it blindly.
My alert history disappeared.
Encounters are kept for seven days and then deleted, which is what keeps the database small. Settings, Export writes the whole log to a file you can keep before it expires.
Which detectors work?
Valentine One Gen2 only, which has Bluetooth built in. The original V1 with a V1connection LE module is not supported.
Do you offer refunds?
Purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under its own refund policy, and Apple processes those requests directly at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue App Store refunds on Apple's behalf, but tell us what went wrong anyway.
